Well, it finally came to pass. My nearly 17yo daughter tied into the rope with her crazy mother and did her first, real, bonafide multi-pitch climb. She was really scared. Honestly, I thought she was going to opt out at the base of the cliff. She pushed through all of her fear of heights/exposure, and boyhowdy was there exposure on this route!
Very, very easy route at Seneca in West Virginia. 5.2. The last pitch was a little harder than that. Great gentleman behind us who works at the Czech Embassy. When my girl started to meltdown on the last technical pitch, 200 ft of aif under her butt and a massive green valley behind her, he totally stepped in and started talking her through the bottom part. She did great. He was excited for her, too. Everyone on the cliff was.
Great place. If you have time on the east coast, divert over there. Super classic routes. Was a training ground pre-/during WWII for the 10th Mountain Brigade. Full of history.
Pics later.
